What kind of country do we live in?
Every time I read something like this, I think back to when I was a child, when I believed this country was a guiding light, a bastion of freedom and heroism. The more I contemplate my former question-less point of view, the more I feel like (and can substantiate the fact that) we were and are still being lied to.
All of that Lee Greenwood, flag waving, patriotic bullshit was nothing more than a brilliant marketing campaign for the most powerful rogue state in the history of the world. Were this still a free and open democracy, we’d embrace criticism, promote diplomacy over military action, and have a government devoted to the will of the people, not global banking cartels and pharmaceutical conglomerates.
Arresting citizens as terrorists and suspending their rights us something the brown shirts were famous for. What the fuck happened to habeas corpus? Does no one care anymore?
